1. Why Clockwise Circles?
by David Stewart, PhD, RA

In applying essential oils, healing aromatherapists teach us
to “energize” the oil with a “clockwise” spin. This is often
done by placing the desired number of oil drops in the palm of
our non-dominant hand (usually the left) and then stirring the
oil in small clockwise circles with one or more fingers of the
other hand. It can also be done directly on the site where oils
are applied. Why is this done? And is there a scientific basis
for it?

The reason it is done is because it has been observed,
empirically, that the therapeutic effectiveness of the oil is
increased by this procedure. Thus, we say “the oil has been
energized.” This is something you can verify yourself.

The concept dates back thousands of years to Chinese
medicine where the yin and yang principles are said to rotate
in opposite directions, both clock and counterclockwise.
According to Chinese principles in cooking food, if one stirs
clockwise it corresponds to balancing conditions within the
human body that may be unbalanced if stirred
counterclockwise.

The science behind this practice is as follows: There are certain
chemical compounds that can exist as pairs. They have the same
formula, but the atoms are put together in such a way that
there are two versions. These are called chiral isomers with
each member of the pair being the mirror image of the other,
like a right and a left-handed pair of gloves. Hundreds of
compounds in essential oils are chiral in nature.

The word, chiral, comes from the Greek, cheiro, meaning hand.
Chiral pairs are designated as being d-isomers where d = dexter
(meaning right in Latin) or l-isomers where l = laevus (meaning
left in Latin).

For reasons known only to God, the major molecules that
make up living systems on earth are all chiral in the same way.
This is true for all terrestrial plants, animals and micro-
organisms. Amino acids are the basic molecular building material
of living matter. All amino acids are l-isomers (left-handed).
Right-handed amino acids can be made in a laboratory, but
they are all dead and are not found in living organisms.

Proteins are macromolecules built of amino acids present in
all living cells. About 50% of your body’s dry weight is protein.
Proteins are major structural components in all of our bodily
tissues. They also catalyze our chemical processes as enzymes,
transport oxygen, serve as hormones, regulate bodily functions,
and make life possible as we know it. Whatever their role, each
protein molecule is built from the levo-chiral molecules of amino
acids. Levo-chiral molecules, and all substances built from
them, always twist clockwise.

From dinosars to the tinest protozoans and viruses. the living
proteins of this planet are all helical with a clockwise twist. This
includes the molecules of DNA. Counterclockwise proteins and
strands of DNA do not exist on planet earth as normal
substances. Simple counterclockwise proteins have been
synthesized in a lab, but they are dead, having no place in the
lifeforms of this world.

The insistence of nature on just one chiral form in the
molecules of terrestrial organisms is called “homochirality”
by scientists. It is possible that the proteins of
extraterrestrial creatures could be counterclockwise. We
only know that on earth, at a microscopic level, all life turns
in a clockwise direction. If an organism or living entity was
discovered on earth whose genes and proteins were all counter-
clockwise, you could know for a certainty that they were aliens
from another planet. This fact could be the basis for a good
science fiction movie.

Geopathology

There are some exceptions to the homochirality of proteins.
The earth possesses a global magnetic field with a north-south
polarity due to ferric minerals and movements in the core the
earth. However, at the earth’s surface one experiences
significant variations in the measurable field due to latitude
and the magnetism of local rocks, ores, and crystalline mineral
deposits. There are also dynamic electric fields (called Telluric
currents) that move and change continually over the earth’s
surface that move differently from place to place.

This give rise to a phenomena called “geopathology.” In other
words, some places on the earth are more in electromagnetic
harmony with human function than others. Living in some
locations support health, wellness, and strength while others
promote sickness and weakness. The unhealthy places are
said to produce “geopathic stress.” People living in such
geographically unfavorable places have higher rates of cancer
and other diseases. What is interesting is that measurements
of the blood of people living under geopathic stress find
reverse polarized proteins. They rotate counterclockwise.
When these people move to a different place, their blood cells
return to the normal clockwise twist and their health improves.
Cancer patients, in general, are found to have reverse twisted
proteins in their blood. If the cancer goes away, the proteins
return to their normal clockwiseness.

These examples of counterclockwise rotation do not change
the fact that all proteins created on earth have a clockwise
twist. It is just that in certain situations, the surrounding electro-
magnetic fields or other forces can acually unwind some proteins,
including our DNA, and turn them backwards. When this happens,
we have an abnormal situation. If not corrected, physical, mental,
and/or emotional sicknesses will inevitably insue.

There are times when counterclockwise motions are used in
healing. For example, in getting access to repressed emotions
or forgotten memories of traumatic experiences, those who
do emotional release work with oils sometimes make small
counterclockwise circles on the temples of the client to “unwind
the DNA” to gain access to these subconscious memories.
However, before the close of the session, clockwise circles
are made to restore the DNA back to its normal helical twist.

Getting back to essential oils, when we make clockwise circles
before applying them, we are placing a spin on the molecules
that enables them to more easily engage with the proteins in
every cell of our bodies as well as the strands of DNA that
form our cellular intelligence. Thus energized, essential oil
molecules can enter our bodies turning in synchrony and
harmony, spinning in the same direction as our body parts on
a microscopic level. In this way the oils can more effectively
administer their therapeutic powers. For cancer patients or
persons living in geopathogenic places or who work in man-made
electromagnetic environments that have reversed some of their
proteins and set them up for sickness—properly polarized and
energized essential oils can restore these twisted proteins back
to their normal clockwise spin, thus setting the person back on
the path to wellness.

For more practical information on the consequences of
geopathology and electromagnetic fields in general, and what
you can do about them, see the excellent book, Electromagnetic
Pollution, by DeVita available from CARE.

NOTE: This is an extract from a new book to be released before
the end of 2004, probably in November. It's title is THE CHEMISTRY

1. Clarification on What is Clockwise
By David Stewart

In my recent article on why we make clockwise circles when
applying essential oils, there was one point I did not make
because I was trying to keep it short and simple. A full answer
would have complicated the article and made it too long.
A longer more complete version of the article that addresses
this point will appear in my upcoming book, The Chemistry
of Essential Oils Made Simple.

The point is this. Since the article has been broadcast over
the internet a week ago, a number of people have asked the
question: What is clockwise? This is a very good question
since clockwiseness depends on your point of reference.
As you will see, answer to this question goes beyond
chemistry and the physical sciences, which is one reason
I chose not to include it with the recent article.

For example, if you make circles on the palm of your hand
that are clockwise from your viewpoint, the base of your
fingers would be 12 oclock and 3 oclock would be to your right.
If you held the palm of your hand away from you and someone
else made clockwise circles on your palm from their point of
reference, your view, from the back of your hand, would see
them going in a counterclockwise direction. Thus, the same
circles would be clockwise to them, counterclockwise to you.
It is like a ceiling fan that appears to turn clockwise when
viewed from the floor but counterclockwise when viewed
from the ceiling above.

As another example, you have seen a lot of spirally turning
hurricanes on the news lately as viewed in the Northern hemi-
sphere looking down from space above the earth. You may have
noticed that they always turn counterclockwise from this
perspective. But from the ground surface looking up at the
hurricane, the turning direction is the opposite or clockwise.

The whole idea of making clockwise circles with essential oils
is to match the clockwise twist of our proteins and DNA. The
problem is that a clockwise circle in two dimensions on a
surface (like your palm) and a clockwise twist in three
dimensions in a protein are not the same thing. In actual
proteins and DNA molecules, we are not talking about making
a simple circle in a plane. We are talking about a three-
dimensional twisted helix which is clockwise turned
regardless of from which end you view it—whether from top
or bottom, from above or from below. Unlike the ceiling fan
or tropical storm whose apparent direction of turning
depends on the side from which you view it, the twist of
proteins is the same regardless of your point of perspective.
The difference comes from an added dimension.

By making clockwise circles on the oils with our fingers,
it is our intent to prepare the molecules to rotate in the
same direction as our proteins and, thus, make them more
readily absorbable. But this is only partly accomplished by
the physical act of making circles. It is also in response to
our intent to energize the oils in a direction that
synchronizes with our cells. The process works whether
one understands it or not and regardless of your point of
reference in choosing which way is clockwise. In making
clockwise circles, we are not able to actually mimic or
duplicate the three-dimensional nature of the clockwise
twist of our cellular proteins, but our intent is to do so and
the oils have a consciousness that understands that and
responds accordingly. Oils follow our heart’s intent, even
when our left-brain understanding is faulty or incomplete
and our physical motions (making clockwise circles) is an
imperfect representative of how the cellular proteins are
actually configured.

For a practical answer of what is clockwise, simply visualize
yourself standing in front of or looking down on the hand
with which you make the circles and make that motion
clockwise from your viewpoint. Don’t worry about anyone
else’s viewpoint. The intelligence of the oils will know what
you want them to do. Making the circles is a means of your
communicating with the oils by a sign language they
understand. But this is beyond chemistry and beyond
science as we know it.

I hope this answer makes things clear to you as to what
clockwise is all about and how and why going through
the motions of clockwise circles can improve the
therapeutic efficacy of essential oils. Think about it.

Letter from Young Living Team

Dear Diamond Leader: We’re excited to announce that more than $1 million was raised for the Young Living Foundation during the 2015 International Grand Convention! Your overwhelming generosity signifies the remarkable start of a new chapter in Young Living’s philanthropic mission. Formerly known as the D. Gary Young Foundation, the Young Living Foundation is a powerful vehicle for good throughout the world. Over the years the foundation has evolved into the primary avenue through which Young Living demonstrates its commitment to empowering families and communities worldwide. As chairman of the board, Young Living founder D. Gary Young guides the foundation with his lifelong passion for helping to improve the lives people everywhere. Following his example, the foundation is dedicated to changing lives with greater impact than ever before. Prior to the 2015 International Grand Convention, Young Living director of philanthropy Nikki Davis and philanthropy marketing manager Brittany Davis visited multiple organizations to which the D. Gary Young Foundation has been donating in both Kenya and Uganda. This visit resulted in three exciting new partnerships for the Young Living Foundation in Uganda: Sole Hope, African Hearts Community Organization, and Healing Faith Uganda. Sole Hope Sole Hope is a non-profit organization that provides shelter and medical relief from trained professionals to victims suffering from parasitic foot disease. If left untreated, the disease can lead to infections, paralysis, and even amputation. Beyond medical implications, those infected with the disease are often ostracized from their communities and become homeless. In addition to shelter and medical care, Sole Hope provides food to the sick and continuing health education in the villages of those affected, so they can be welcomed back home following recovery. African Hearts Community Organization African Hearts Community Organization is a rescue program for children living in the slums and streets of Kampala, Uganda. Either orphaned or abandoned by their parents due to poverty, these children are without food, shelter, and have very little clothing. African Hearts was founded and is currently directed by Lutaaya Abdul, who grew up in these slums. After watching multiple young friends die amid the horrific conditions, he felt a need to make a change. Despite setbacks, he established African Hearts to bring other children out of the slums and into transitional homes where they receive food, shelter, and social services, as well as a quality education through the African Hearts Junior School. Healing Faith Uganda Healing Faith Uganda provides malaria education, prevention, and treatment to rural villages. In Africa a child dies every 60 seconds from malaria. Through Healing Faith Uganda, a single donation of just $5 provides a mosquito net that can protect up to three children from malaria. We will soon unveil the new Young Living Foundation website and marketing materials. Until then you can continue to donate to the Young Living Foundation and these extraordinary partnerships at DGaryYoungFoundation.org. Additionally, donations can be made in Virtual Office by clicking on the Young Living Foundation box to round your order total to the nearest dollar. Tomorrow we will be sending every member in your organization an email explaining the foundation’s name change. We will also release a social media campaign and a new Member News piece in Virtual Office. Feel free to share this exciting announcement today with your team! Thank you for your efforts in making Young Living a world-class company. With your help, we are changing lives for the better every day! Best regards, The Young Living Team

Sharing Young Living Right

The U.S. and most other countries have regulations in place designed to protect consumers. Many of these specifically regulate how natural wellness companies like Young Living market themselves. These regulations help make sure that companies are making true, safe claims about their products. To help protect you and us, here are some quick tips for getting the word out about Young Living products without putting yourself or Young Living at legal risk. Things to Avoid Avoid making health-related claims about Young Living products that are misleading, not true, or can’t be backed up by scientific studies. All product claims should be truthful, not misleading, and should be backed by scientific evidence. Never claim or suggest that our products can cure, alleviate, treat, prevent, or diagnose a disease, symptom, or injury. These types of claims are called “disease claims.” Here are a few examples of conditions generally considered to be diseases: cold, flu, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, heart attacks, HIV, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, allergies, tooth decay, impotence, seizures, asthma, attention deficit disorder, ulcers, burns, mild abrasions, bruises, scars, head lice, obesity, anxiety, and depression. Many, many others belong on this list, but there isn’t enough space for them all! No matter how much success you feel you’ve had with a Young Living product in helping your family fight disease, avoid claiming as much when you are sharing our products. Personal experiences do not replace scientific studies, and when you share your personal experiences in a business building setting, no matter how remarkable, they may count as a disease claim. Avoid stating that our products can treat a disease, even if you don’t actually name the disease. There are a lot of ways to imply that Young Living products can treat, cure, or prevent diseases. Each violates U.S. regulations. Regulators look at the objective intent of advertising statements when deciding whether or not a disease claim is implied. Below are a few impermissible implied disease claims, the disease implied by these claims, and related claims that you can make. Unacceptable Disease Claim Implied Disease Acceptable Claim Relieves crushing chest pain Angia or heart attack Helps relax muscles Heals stomach or duodenal lesions and bleeding Ulcers Helps with upset/sour stomach Anticonvulsant Epilepsy Provides support for the nervous system Relief of bronchospasm Asthma Supports healthy lung function Helps alleviate the blues associated with emotion of despair Depression Helps alleviate occasional nervous irritability Controls blood sugar in person with insufficient insulin Diabetes Maintains normal blood sugar levels Prevents wasting in persons with weakened immune systems AIDS Supports the immune system Improves joint mobility and reduces joint inflammation and pain Rheumatoid arthritis Supports healthy joint and cartilage function Antibiotic Infections Aids a healthy immune system Avoid claiming that Young Living products treat a symptom of a disease or a class of disease, even when talking in every day terms (instead of technical terms). Here are a few examples: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Unacceptable Implied Disease Claims Why It Is an Unacceptable Claim Acceptable Claims ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Helps lower cholesterol OR Promotes cholesterol clearance The lowering of cholesterol or Helps maintain cholesterol levels already cholesterol clearance are implied disease in the normal range claims linked to treating elevated cholesterol _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ For joint pain Joint pain is a widely recognized as being a Helps support cartilage and joint function OR characteristic of arthritis Helps alleviate minor aches and pains associated with daily life _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Maintains healthy lungs in smokers Smokers are an at-risk population for lung cancer, Maintains healthy lung function OR therefore the claim implies lung cancer prevention Supports the lungs and sinuses ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Prevents bone fragility in post-menopausal women Implies prevention of osteoporosis Helps support healthy bone structure ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Prevents memory loss Refers to preventing Alzheimer’s disease Improves absentmindedness ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Aids in balancing blood sugar Imbalanced blood sugar levels are widely known to Helps maintain blood sugar levels already in the be associated with diabetes. In this case, “balancing” normal range would be understood to mean “improving.” _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Some drug classes are so strongly associated with disease treatment or prevention that a statement that a product belongs to that class implies that the product will treat or prevent the same diseases that the class of drug does.

Ningxia Red and Benzoate - FACTS vs FICTION

Ningxia Red and Benzoate
FACTS vs FICTION (VERSION 3)

Sodium Benzoate is one of the least problematic of all the preservatives. If Young Living didn't use a small amount of preservative in Ningxia Red, it would turn to wine or vinegar. Young Living does not irradiate or cook the juice to the point of not needing a preservative. Juices without a preservative have been overheated or processed to point where they have little bioactivity, enzymes, antioxidants, or nutrients.

In fact, Ningxia Red is the highest known antioxidant liquid supplement available, a testament to both its bioactivity and stability. Young Living scientists have added the least of amount of benzoate needed to create the most bioactive infusion in existence.

Sodium benzoate is freely found in nature, and in fact, even organically grown cranberries or prunes can contain levels of benzoic acid that exceed the legal limit imposed by the FDA on U.S. food manufacturers (0.1% by weight), although the level normally found in berries will be in the range of 0.05 to 0.1%. Natural sodium benzoate is not harmful.

According to Gil Stoewsand, Faculty, Food Science & Technology, Cornell University: “Sodium benzoate is a very widespread food preservative used much under 0.1% in many foods from soup to cereals. The considerable time between the production and the consumption of food today makes some use of preservatives necessary in order to prevent spoilage and undersirable alterations in color, flavor, or nutrients. Degradation pathways for benzoic acid (produced in the body from the sodium salt) have been studied in detail and have shown the harmlessness of this substance: 75-80% is excreted within 6 hours, and the total dose leaves the body within about 10 hours. It does not cause cancer. The limit of sodium benzoate in foods is not because of its toxicity, but at levels higher than 0.1% will leave an unacceptable aftertaste. Foods containing this preservative are much healthier than non-preservative foods since harmful microorganism growth is inhibited, food oxidation is prevented, and food nutrients are preserved.

Chronic toxicities were examined in rats fed diets containing up to a total of 1%. After 4 generations there were no changes in normal patterns of growth, reproduction, lactation and no morphological abnormalities of organs. Acute toxicity studies, where one large dose of sodium benzoate is given to animals, showed no lethal effects until 2 grams per kg. body wt. was administered. One could not eat enough foods containing sodium benzoate to even get 0.002% of this amount!
Limits of sodium benzoate in foods is not because of toxicity, but it will impart a taste that will make some foods unacceptable. This is a very non-toxic compound and foods containing preservatives are usually much healthier since harmful microorganism growth is inhibited, oxidation is checked, and nutrients, natural or added, are saved.”

The Benzoate-Benzene Connection.
Recently attention has been focused on high levels of benzene in common vitamin C-supplemented soft drinks. In recent years, independent analyses performed by laboratories in New York, found benzene levels in carbonated beverages at two-and-a-half-times and five times above the World Health Organization limit for drinking water (10 parts per billion). In many cases these levels exceeded 85 parts per billion.

Dr. Glen Lawrence, a chemist who conducted extensive benzene testing for the FDA, confirmed that sodium benzoate and ascorbic acid may react under certain conditions to form benzene. This occurs commonly in soft drinks.

He found that ascorbic acid readily oxidizes in the presence of carbonic acid, heat, and transition  metals, such as iron or copper, to create 'free radical' hydroxyl particles. These hydroxyl radicals attack benzoic acid, stripping away a carbon dioxide molecule.  Benzene is thereby created. It is important to note that this reaction occurs in the presence of either heat or carbonic acid, conditions common to almost all carbonated beverages.

In sum, Dr. Lawrence made it very clear that in order for benzene to be created in  a liquid beverage, a benzoate must be combined with:
1. Vitamin C
2. Carbonic Acid
3. Low antioxidant environment
4. Heat

In the Ningxia Red, it is important to note that only two out of these four conditions are present. And regarding heat for pasteurization, only minimal heat is used in the low-temperature flash pasteurization of the Ningxia Red.

According to Dr. Lawrence, benzene is created only where an abundance of free radicals exists in solution, usually created by a combination of heat and/or carbonic acid. In contrast to the poor antioxidant levels of most soft drinks, Ningxia Red is one of the most potent antioxidant liquid supplements ever tested.

This unequalled antioxidant profile prevents the creation of benzene in the Ningxia Red juice.  Moreover, the absence of carbonic acid further protects the vitamin C in Ningxia Red from forming the free radicals.

The proof is clear: Independent laboratory tests of Ningxia Red for benzene found that it easily exceeds both the World Health Organization limit for drinking water (10 parts per billion) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's drinking water safety standard (five parts per billion).

World regulatory agencies can't set benzene limits for foods and beverages, because benzene occurs at normal natural levels in our food supply, i.e. eggs (1000-1900 ppb) haddock fish (200 ppb) beef (10 ppb) and at even lower levels in organic fruits/veggies.

Even though NingXia Red is a whole fruit infusion product and is not required to meet drinking water guidelines it tests at a minuscule 4 ppb. This is not only below the EPA's and WHO's a stringent drinking water guideline it is at the expected natural level considering the concentration of its whole fruit ingredients.

In fact, the benzene levels in Ningxia Red are so low that one medium raw egg (61 grams) has over 1000 times the  benzene as a one ounce serving of Ningxia Red.

As a side note, it would be nearly impossible to entirely eliminate benzene from the diet. Trace amounts of benzene are a nearly ubiquitous component of many foods including, red beans, leeks, parsley, soybean milk, cocoa, apples, oranges,  cranberries, bilberries, strawberries and more. However, by using high antioxidant dietary additions, it is possible to minimize any of its negative effects on the body.  And Ningxia Red is one of the most powerful known antioxidants with a number of documented health benefits, including supporting eye health, vascular health, and liver fiction. And it is the only liquid infusion to contain therapeutic grade essential oils.

THE 9 WHY'S

                  THE 9 WHY'S
1. TO CONTRIBUTE TO A GREATER CAUSE
OR TO HELP OTHERS
People with this WHY feel compelled to be a part of
a greater cause. They don't want to be the cause,
simply to participate and offer their contribution.
They love to support and relish the success of the
greater good, the company, the team, or whatever
the cause may be. You will often find them behind
the scenes looking for ways to make the world a
better place. You may also find them in more of a

Stem Cell November 13-22, 2013

Stem Cell Therapies at the Nova Vita Center*
November 13-22, 2013
Guayaquil, Ecuador

We are happy to announce that a visiting American medical staff will be offering stem cell therapies at the Nova Vita Center in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Stem cells are taken from the patients own bone marrow and prepared for re-injection into the body: (1) by the intravenous route, (2) into arthritic joints, or (3) into intervertebral discs for spine pain. These therapies are legally available in the U.S.; however, during this week in Ecuador, the Ecuadorian medical staff will additionally be administering essential oil therapies simultaneously, which is not available in the U.S.

Here is a description of the three types of therapies offered:

(1) Intravenous injection of bone marrow stem cells

This is a therapy intended to treat:

·        Autoimmune disease
·        Neurological disease
·        Heart/vascular disease
·        Lung disease
·        Diabetes
·        Non-healing wounds
·        Does not treat cancer

We have large reservoirs of stem cells in our bone marrow. When we have an acute injury, they are naturally released into general circulation in order to heal the body. However, when we are in a chronic disease state, this no longer occurs. In order to treat chronic disease, we remove the stem cells from the bone marrow and re-inject them intravenously. This way, the body thinks that it has undergone a trauma and places the organism into a hyper-healing state.

The American medical staff has found this treatment to be helpful for a broad spectrum of systemic disorders. This therapy is considered experimental, but it is very safe. The stem cell IV will be immediately followed by essential oil therapy administered by the Ecuadorian medical staff. The cost for this combined procedure is $2,500, all of which will be donated to the D. Gary Young Foundation. The procedure will be performed at the Nova Vita Center. Please contact us with questions or to schedule an appointment: novavitanovember2013@gmail.com.

(2) Injection of bone marrow stem cells into joints

For the treatment of arthritis of the shoulder, elbow, wrist/hand, hip, knee, ankle/foot, our American staff will harvest bone marrow and re-inject it directly into the arthritic joint(s). The experience of the American medical staff is that this treatment is very effective at reducing pain and increasing function of joints. This injection will be immediately followed by essential oil therapy administered by the Ecuadorian medical staff.

The cost for this treatment is $2,500 if performed by the American medical staff, but you have the option of paying $1,500 if you allow the procedure to be performed by one of the international visiting doctors that the American medical staff will be training. The procedure will be performed at the Nova Vita Center. Please contact us with questions or to schedule an appointment: novavitanovember2013@gmail.com.

(3) Injection of bone marrow stem cells into intervertebral discs of the spine

For people suffering from spine pain related to degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, and/or spinal stenosis, our American medical staff will inject bone marrow stem cells directly into the center of the intervertebral discs and into the spinal canal (epidural space) in an attempt to regenerate the tissues of the spine. This is followed immediately by essential oil therapy administered by the Ecuadorian medical staff.

Because of the vast jump in complexity of this procedure, it is performed under anesthesia in the operating room of a modern hospital in Guayaquil. The price is higher than the above two listed procedures and is based on a variety of factors. Please contact us for an estimate: novavitanovember2013@gmail.com.

Included in the above listed prices is transportation to and from the airport and to and from the hotel. Meals are furnished while taking treatment according to the dietary needs of your protocol. You can wire your payment to the D. Gary Young Foundation, or you may pay in cash when you arrive (wire instructions will be sent when you schedule an appointment). However, no therapies or treatments will be administered until payment is received.

You will also be able to have a microscopic blood analysis to determine the state of your health and specific needs of your body and be able to return home with protocols to help you continue with your healing.

If you wish to stay longer for further treatments with essential oils and other therapies, check with the Center to see what the extra charges would be. Other therapies include:

·        Essential oil water baths
·        Massage
·        Raindrop Therapy treatment
·        Structural treatment

There is much to choose from and enjoy. If you would like to schedule additional appointments with the Nova Vita Center, please contact them directly: novavitacenterdr@hotmail.com.

Also, during this week, the American and Ecuadorian medical staff will be offering training to licensed physicians in the therapies described above. This is the procedure that Gary first had done with essential oils in Ecuador six years ago. Both Dr. Gary and Dr. Leida will be present with the other doctors. This was the beginning of Garys spinal column regeneration.

Physician Training

The American and Ecuadorian medical staff will be training licensed doctors in these therapies during the week. There will be a didactic portion as well as hands-on practice of the skills. Please contact novavitanovember2013@gmail.com for details and pricing.

Airlines and Hotels

Please make your own airline and hotel reservations; you are responsible for these charges.

Airlines

American Airlines (www.aa.com) has direct flights out of Miami. Air France (www.airfrance.com) and Iberia (www.iberia.com) fly directly from Europe. Copa Airlines (copaair.com), Lan Ecuador (lanchili.com or lanecuador.com), and Avianca (avianca.com) are also possibilities.

Porters will be available at the airport to help with the luggage. They will take it off the belt and carry it to the scanner (all luggage, including carry-ons, purses, cameras, diaper bags, etc., have to go through a scanner to enter Ecuador). Porters will then carry your baggage out for you right to the taxi or to whoever is picking you up at that time. Generally $1 is sufficient as a tip.

Hotels

·        Sheraton Guayaquil: (593) (4) 208.2088
·        Holiday Inn Guayaquil Airport: 1 (888) 465.4329
·        Courtyard Marriott Guayaquil: (593) (4) 600.9200
·        Hilton Colon Guayaquil: (593) (4) 268.9000
·        Howard Johnson Guayaquil: (593) (4) 239.7374

The Nova Vita Center is located on the Young Living Farm outside of Guayaquil about 40 minutes from the airport.

Guayaquil

Guayaquil is beautiful with temperatures between 80 and 90 degrees. At best you will need only a sweater for a cooler evening. Do not bring heavy clothing or anything made from thick material. Most people like cotton the best, and most dress attire is very casual.
There are a few small health food stores in Guayaquil, which are usually found in the malls. They carry mostly oriental and GNC-type supplements, which are very limited. If you want healthy snacks, then bring them with you. You can buy cheese, yogurt, and fruit, but choices are limited. Ecuadorians love sugar and almost all processed food contains sugar. Do not wear expensive jewelry or carry your computer or camera when walking in the city. Don’t advertise yourself as a tourist. You are quite safe, but it is better to be prudent in your activities.

Ecuador uses the American dollar, so you don’t have to change any money, unless you are coming from a different country. They use American coins and their old coins together. It makes it easy if you come with a few $1 and $5 bills, as well as a few 50 cent pieces so that you are prepared for tips. We suggest bringing 50 $1 bills and another $50 in $5 and $10 bills. We suggest not bringing $100 bills because most establishments don’t like to take them, and many of them won’t take them because they simply don’t have the cash to change them. Tipping is a way of life here, so you will find yourself tipping for just about everything, and usually 50 cents is enough.

Credit cards are accepted in the malls and most commercial businesses, but do not expect to be able to use them everywhere. We suggest that you do NOT bring travelers’ checks because they are almost impossible to cash. Only the Central Bank will cash travelers’ checks, and this bank is located in the center of Guayaquil, which is far away through heavy traffic. It would not be a happy experience to take a taxi to this place. There are ATM machines at all the banks, so it is easy to get more cash if you need it.

Taxis are inexpensive, available everywhere, and easy to hire for places you would like to go. Guayaquil is a big city of about three million people. You can see the very modern and the very old. There are big, beautiful, American-type malls next to primitive homes on stilts. Shopping is fun and there are a few people who speak English, especially in the malls. Guayaquil has a fabulous bus system that will take you anywhere if you are brave enough to try it. Car rentals are very expensive (about double or triple that in the U.S.). Many items have American prices and higher, and other items are very inexpensive.

While at the Nova Vita Center, you will be able to tour the farm, see the distillery and the laboratory where the oils are tested, walk through the worm casting houses where organic liquid fertilizer is made every day, walk through the fields and see the crops being harvested, visit the goat dairy, and visit the brick factory where bricks are made with dirt and cement (a new method of making bricks), which will be used to build the new addition of the Young Living Academy.

Enjoy a glass of very delicious goat milk as well as organic meals at the restaurant that sits on stilts over the lake, just a five minute walk from the Center. Fresh juices are made every day, and all meals and drinks are prepared without sugar, white salt, or white flour. All sweetening is done with agave or yacon. No fried food is served.

There is also an archeological dig on the farm that is fascinating to see, where you can spend a little time with a fork and shovel, if you would like. Four-wheelers are available if you would like to explore the farm. The palo santo forest is a place to spend time meditating or just enjoying the peace and quiet surrounded by the beautiful aroma.

Internet service is usually available at the Young Living Training Center in Guayaquil and at the Young Living Farm, where the Nova Vita Clinic is located. The electrical outlets are the same as in the United States and Canada, and the voltage is 110.

*Disclaimer
In order to comply with Ecuadorean law, all procedures will be supervised by Dr. Leida Argüello, an authorized local physician, and assisted by the American medical team.
Results may vary for each individual.  Novavita S.A. is not responsible for any procedure that does not produce the desired result.

**Note: Please email novavitanovember2013@gmail.com for details regarding stem cell injections. For information about the Nova Vita Center email novavitacenterdr@hotmail.com. Please DO NOT respond to this email.

LEMON YL ESSENTIAL OIL

YL LEMON ESSENTIAL OIL

Young Living’s lemon essential oil is cold pressed from the rind of Citrus limon. Lemon oil
consists of 68 percent d-limonene, a powerful antioxidant. It is refreshing in water and
may be beneficial for the skin. Lemon oil also promotes clarity of thought and purpose and
has a purifying citrus scent that is invigorating, enhancing, and warming and is known as
one of the most fragrant essential oils.

As with all of Young Living’s essential oils, each batch of lemon oil must pass Young Living’s
stringent testing to ensure the optimal bioactive natural compounds are present. Young
Living uses its own internal labs, in addition to third-party audits, to verify that
international purity and potency standards are met and surpassed. Through this process,

Young Living has certified that its lemon oil is free of all pesticides and other chemical
residues. A pesticide free product means that no detectable pesticides, naturally occurring
or synthetic, have been identified in the product. As a result, Young Living’s lemon oil may
be safely consumed as a dietary supplement.

3

Q. Is Young Living financially stable?

A. Yes. Young Living has never been more financially stable than it is today. With very little debt, strong inventory and cash balances, and immense revenue acceleration (see http://online.wsj.com/article/PR-CO-20130417-911485.html), the company is indeed financially stable. Young Living is expected to continue growing at record rates.

Q. Has there been an increase in employee turnover recently at Young Living?

A. No. For a growing company like Young Living, overall employee turnover remains at a constant and typical level. Some employees move on for any number of reasons, as in any company.

Q. Why does Young Living do more than sell essential oils?
Young Living views its farms; its research relationships with medical professionals, hospitals, and clinics; and its philanthropic efforts as unique assets with an unmatched power to guarantee quality, provide validating research, and change lives.

Q. Why did Young Living recently modify its compensation plan?

A. Young Living introduced a new, groundbreaking compensation plan to offer Independent Distributors greater financial incentives and assistance as they build a successful business.
The former plan promoted a bonus payout that was additional to the compensation plan. It was originally intended to help Young Living grow in its infancy, but Young Living has now outgrown that plan. Many distributors were “stuck” in the bonus and did not see normal, organizational growth that would produce the desired income.

In the new plan all the bonuses are within the commission structure. Distributors will be able to advance more quickly in rank, see tremendous growth in their organizations, and enjoy helping others build their businesses. Tremendous research and planning have made this the most generous and easily understood compensation plan in the history of Young Living. Highlights of the plan include:

• New bonus levels
• Profit-sharing opportunities
• More accessible advancement
• Travel incentives
• Increased leadership opportunities
• Easy to understand and teach
“This is an amazing time for Young Living, with our record-breaking growth and the new improvements to our compensation plan. It is really going to set a precedent in the industry,” said D. Gary Young, founder and CEO.

Quality

Q. Does Young Living Take Essential Oil Quality Seriously?

A. One of Young Living’s defining attributes is taking quality so seriously that it has developed its own Seed to Seal® process. It owns the farms, plants the seeds, and then cultivates, harvests, and distills the aromatic plant materials with its proprietary distillation technology to ensure the highest quality profiled essential oils in the industry.

Young Living has farming and distillation operations throughout the world, including North America, South America, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, all of which produce the finest essential oils anywhere in the world. Whether an oil is produced on a Young Living farm or from a qualified, trusted distillator/partner, every batch of oil is tested for compliance with Young Living’s therapeutic-grade standard and rejected if it does not comply. Again, no other company is more dedicated to consistently delivering such high quality products.

Young Living currently rejects approximately 30 percent of all essential oils received for analysis. These oils are found to be extended, adulterated, or subtherapeutic. It is a sad fact that these rejected oils will probably be marketed and sold by other less discerning companies, often at a lower price.
Young Living's founder, D. Gary Young, has spent 30 years acquiring knowledge on herb cultivation and proper essential oil distillation and has worked with the foremost world experts on essential oils, including the following:

• Marcel Espieu (20-year president of the Lavender Growers Association in France)
• Henry Viaud (most renown essential oil distillator in the world)
• Herve Casabianca, PhD (foremost analytical chemist of essential oils in the world today and who helped write the European AFNOR standard for essential oils)
• Jean-Claude Lapraz, MD (early pioneer in essential oil research)
• Radwan Farag, PhD (analytical chemist and dean of the Biochemical Department at Cairo University, who has written many published papers on essential oil research)
• Kurt Schnaubelt, PhD (chemist and owner of Swiss Aromatics)
• Countless other experts
Moreover, employees in Young Living’s Chemistry Lab, Research and Development department, and Quality Assurance department have spent almost two decades working with Gary Young and other researchers to refine and develop the unique Young Living 100% pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade essential oil standard. Every year, Gary and Young Living staff members travel across the world to personally inspect essential oil distilleries and herb cultivation farms to ensure the highest therapeutic quality.
5

Q. Why do some Young Living Oil blends contain carrier oils?

A. Eleven of Young Living’s oil blends include a specially selected carrier oil to optimize the therapeutic effect for targeting specific needs.

Q. Does Young Living test every lot of essential oil?

A. Young Living tests every lot of essential oil, whether from its own farms or from its trusted growers/partners and suppliers. Each essential oil is subjected to state-of-the-art analysis at the Young Living Chemistry Lab. Its team of scientists subjects every essential oil to as many as seven tests, including gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), refractive index, FTIR, optical rotation, organoleptic analysis, specific gravity analysis, and others when needed.
Additionally, Young Living protects against adulteration by inspecting/auditing its farms and steam extraction facilities around the world to examine the herbs that are cultivated, check the essential oils being distilled, and take reference samples directly from the separator to store as a reference in the Young Living Quality Control Labs.

Q. Does Young Living use outside, independent labs?

A. Young Living uses world-class independent labs to confirm in-house analysis. Young Living also sends essential oils out for advanced tests such as carbon isotope analysis. Most of Young Living’s day-to-day essential oil chemical assays are conducted at the Young Living Chemistry Lab in Spanish Fork, Utah, which houses the most advanced analytical instruments available for analyzing the composition of an essential oil.

Q. Why does Young Living say its oil standards are “beyond organic?”

A. The Young Living therapeutic-grade standard goes beyond organic in purity, scope, and potency. Many of Young Living’s essential oils come from wild-crafted material growing on a mountainside, from virgin forests, or native plants that have been growing in a particular region for centuries. Such harvests are technically not “organic.” For example, frankincense grows wild through the hills and mountains of Oman in areas untouched by urban pollution and factory runoffs. Are these frankincense trees organic? Will the resin they produce ever be certified organic? There are no plans for certification at this time. But it is from these wild, native trees that Young Living contracts with local Bedouins to gather the frankincense resin to be distilled at its facility in Salalah, Oman. This is just one example of how Young Living exceeds existing world standards.

Q. Where does Young Living acquire frankincense?

A. There are many species of frankincense that come from different countries in the world. Young Living has a distillery and farm in Salalah, Oman, where it distills the resin of the sacred frankincense (Boswellia sacra) tree, which grows in Oman. The oil produced is the most prized frankincense in the world and the one believed by archaeologists to be the frankincense taken to the Christ Child. Young Living is the only company with a license issued from the Omani
6
government to legally distill and export it. Anyone else making that claim is not telling the truth. Young Living also distills Boswellia carterii, which comes from Somalia and is distilled in Kenya.

Boswellia frereana comes from Western Somalia. This oil is used more in the perfume industry, as it has little therapeutic value, except in oral hygiene. Comparing Boswellia sacra and Boswellia carterii to Boswellia frereana is like comparing a diamond to cubic zirconium. It might smell nice, but you need to carefully consider the source and species of your frankincense if you are using it for therapeutic application.
Young Living also distills sweet myrrh (Commiphora erythraea) at its facility in Oman. This sweet myrrh, as it is referred to in the Bible, is gathered from a mountainous region of Yemen and shipped to Oman. It is being distilled for the first time in hundreds of years.

Q. What is Young Living’s therapeutic-grade standard, and how does it compare to standards such as AFNOR and ISO?

A. When Gary Young started researching essential oil quality in the early 1980’s, a patchwork of different independent standards existed, including Grade A, AFNOR, ISO, and others. Many of these standards did not necessarily correlate with the health benefits of the essential oils.
More than 30 years ago, Gary Young first coined the phrase “therapeutic-grade” while conducting clinical trials with essential oils in his clinic in Mexico before Young Living was established. He created a new essential oil category for quality in which essential oil compounds were linked to various therapeutic effects. This began what would become the therapeutic-grade standard of essential oils.
Gradually, other companies began using this term to describe their oils. It is important not to confuse these imitators with the Young Living therapeutic-grade standard. Some oil sellers would have you believe that there are other laboratories, organizations, or associations qualified to certify an essential oil as therapeutic-grade. This is not true.

Using the Seed to Seal process and the experience of the science and application for over 20 years, only Young Living is qualified to certify essential oils as therapeutic-grade. Gary Young has spent three decades developing the therapeutic-grade standard on which Young Living is based today:

• Clinical research of essential oils conducted by medical professionals
• Investigation of historical and traditional uses
• The many farms that are the beginning of the Seed to Seal process
• Analyses of thousands of peer-reviewed scientific studies of essential oils that use gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), and various other instruments to test thousands of batches of oil

7

To date, Young Living’s library of peer-reviewed research papers on essential oils encompasses thousands of articles and is one of the largest in the world.
The Four P’s
For simplicity Young Living’s therapeutic-grade standard can be summarized with the Four P’s philosophy: Plants, Preparation, Purity, and Potency.

Plants

Young Living’s therapeutic-grade standard begins with selecting the correct family, genus, and species of an herb and ensuring it is grown in the proper soil, at the correct altitude, and in the best weather conditions. For example, a number of different species of frankincense resins are collected in different regions of Arabia, Africa, and India. Some of these species include Boswellia sacra, Boswellia carterii, Boswellia serrate, Boswellia papyrifera, and Boswellia frereana. Each species has very different components and properties.
Moreover, even among trees of the same species (e.g., Boswellia carterii), resin quality and oil quality vary dramatically, depending on where the trees are grown. Are they located in a wetter coastal area? Or do they grow in an interior, semi-arid location? At what altitude do the trees produce the most resin? Is the tree located in Arabia, India, or Africa? All of these factors are critical in determining the selection of a truly pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade frankincense essential oil to obtain the greatest healing benefits possible.
Many people believe that Boswellia sacra, or sacred frankincense, is the frankincense referred to in the Bible that was taken to the Christ Child at his birth.

Gary Young spent years visiting the countries of Arabia and Africa to investigate the different species of frankincense and the specific regions in which these different species were growing. Both Boswellia sacra and Boswellia carterii were historically used for healing, which led Gary to continue his research to eventually scientifically document these two species of frankincense as the only ones producing oil with a chemical structure suited for medical research. Using analyses such as gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, HPLC, chiral GC/GC-MS, optical rotation, and specific gravity, Gary was able to identify the frankincense species with the optimal therapeutic benefits.
Preparation

Even the best herbs can be ruined or damaged if they are not cultivated, harvested, and distilled properly. Plants must be harvested at the right time and then very specifically distilled, after which the oils must be handled carefully to protect their living energy and volatile compounds.
For example, the distillation of frankincense is a closely guarded art that has been handed down from generation to generation. The sticky gum resin must be distilled in a specially designed steam extractor using a carefully controlled method to keep the gum resin from becoming glued to the walls of the equipment, burning or scorching, and producing inferior-grade oil with little therapeutic effect. The distillation technique takes several hours and a lot of patience to obtain all the volatile compounds that give frankincense its great healing attributes.

8
Purity and Potency

Every batch of aromatic plant material, whether distilled on Young Living’s own farms or obtained from one of its outside partners, is subjected to state-of-the-art analyses at the Young Living Chemistry Lab. With the most advanced equipment in the world, Young Living’s Quality Assurance department subjects every incoming lot of essential oils to a battery of tests. Oils that exhibit even the slightest hint of possible tampering or adulteration—even if provided from a trusted supplier—are either rejected outright or sent to outside laboratories for even more in-depth testing using techniques such as carbon isotope analysis.
Young Living’s past experience with Helichrysum italicum essential oil demonstrates its commitment to this standard. A few years ago, Young Living rejected and returned several million dollars- worth of helichrysum, even though this oil was badly needed and was in short supply at the time, since it is very difficult to find and only a small amount is produced for the world market. While this shipment of Helichrysum italicum had a very similar aroma as previous lots, its chemistry was different, and at best the oil could only be classified as subtherapeutic, so it was rejected.

Frustrated distributors often ask why a product is not available. This is because Young Living refuses to sell inferior oils. Indeed, it is becoming increasingly more difficult to locate pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade essential oils that have not been extended or tampered with by adding synthetic compounds. Moreover, many essential oils are only distilled once or twice a year, and the temptation to adulterate is becoming more rampant. Many brokers increase their profit by altering specific essential oils by adding synthetic compounds to increase the volume of the oil that they sell.

The bottom line is: Firsthand knowledge of growing, harvesting, distilling, and analyzing oils gives us a tremendous advantage in understanding every aspect of production. Young Living’s Seed to Seal process focuses on producing pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade essential oils that meet the Young Living standard of excellence, and the proof is in the exquisite oil that is unique to itself with its individual aroma and specific benefits.

Competition

Q. Is Young Living concerned about competition?

A. No. As the world leader in essential oils, Young Living is focused on continuing to provide the very best essential oils and the very best education and business opportunities to its distributors. Naturally, new oil sellers will enter the marketplace with marketing hype touting the opportunity to make money or with health claims that have only the backup of other writers and publications.
Anyone can buy oils from brokers and small producers to sell to the public, but no one else has the exclusive Seed to Seal process like Young Living. This is what sets Young Living and its products apart from everyone else. Because of the Young Living farms and the knowledge of growing, harvesting, and distilling, it is easy for Young Living to establish the therapeutic-grade standard and lead the way in the essential oil industry. Young Living’s commitment to plants,
9
preparation, purity, and potency guarantees that the products it delivers will remain undiluted with a Seed to Seal process that produces the highest therapeutic quality essential oils available.

Q. Is Young Living protecting itself from former employees who are now competitors?

A. Any highly successful business will create imitators, many of whom will try to cut corners and minimize reinvestments in order to maximize profits. As the world leader, Young Living has seen a number of such competitors come and go. Young Living reserves the right to take legal action if a competitor violates laws or attempts to gain unfair advantage and recently has done so in one instance. Young Living chooses to maintain the high ethical industry standard but will respond, although Young Living prefers to address competition with its Seed to Seal story, continuously provide innovative products with uncompromising quality, and produce the highest quality, pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade essential oils in the world.

Q. I have been contacted by a competing essential oils company. What questions should I ask?

A. Young Living does not release confidential customer information to any third party. However, if you are contacted by a competing essential oil company, you have the right to ask where and how they obtained your contact information. Furthermore, you can determine their level of commitment to quality by asking questions such as the following:

• Does the company test essential oils both in-house and with independent labs?
• Does the company guarantee 100% pure essential oils produced from botanically verified plants?
• Does the company personally research and experiment with planting, growing, harvesting, and distilling of aromatic plants?
• If the company claims its products are “certified,” specifically which essential oil experts or independent “certification” laboratories have certified it?
• Does the company have in-house expertise and commitment to quality assurance?
• How was the company founded?
• Has the company dedicated numerous years to gain knowledge about essential oils?
• What is the background of those they consider to be essential oil experts?
• Does the company own its own farms or strictly regulate the farms that produce its oils?
• Does the company distill its own aromatic plants or partner with other growers?
• Does the company offer a large essential oil collection, or is it primarily focused on profiting from a small group of popular oils that have a pleasant aroma?
• Does the company routinely visit its suppliers and partner-distilleries to ensure that the best practices are adhered to?

10
• What peer-reviewed research has the company published? Has it tested its oils in clinical settings?
• Are the company’s standards based on a library of thousands of scientific articles, essential oil gas chromatograph tests, and data from hundreds of thousands of user experiences?

Q. Some competitive essential oils smell sweeter—almost like candy or perfume. Why are they so different from Young Living's?

A. Young Living harvests, distills, and sells therapeutic-grade essential oils—not confection- or perfume-grade oils. Pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade essential oils that have proven potency are not designed to smell candy-like; rather, they have their own unique aromas with their very specific actions and unmatched therapeutic potency. An overly sweet aroma is actually a hallmark of a rectified, cut, and/or confection- or perfume-grade essential oil, rather than a pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade oil.

Q. May I use the term “therapeutic-grade”? Other oil companies in the marketplace use the term “therapeutic-grade” or variations thereof, and they say it’s protected. What are my rights?

A. You may use the term “therapeutic-grade” to promote Young Living essential oils. When D. Gary Young conducted his first essential oil research in his clinic over 25 years ago, he pioneered the term “therapeutic-grade” to make a distinction between oils sold in the market place and those he had brought home from France and was studying in his clinic. This phrase has now become very common and is used by most essential oil companies, even those selling very low therapeutic-grade essential oils.

The Seed to Seal process Young Living uses when planting, cultivating, harvesting, and distilling is crucial to retaining the vital compounds of the plant material. Without the exact blend of naturally occurring plant chemicals, an essential oil can lose its beneficial properties and fail to produce the desired effect. Every essential oil Young Living distills or sources has the optimal naturally occurring blend of constituents to maximize the desired effect. Young Living is able to make this statement because of its strict Seed to Seal process—illustrated by the Four P’s (as discussed above)—that guarantees the optimal potency of every Young Living essential oil.

Q. I would like to come back to Young Living after being with another company where the results are less than advertised. Am I still welcome?

A. Young Living welcomes back all former distributors with open arms. Young Living is confident that you will find your sponsor ready and willing to give you the support and guidance you need.

Q. Has Young Living been disparaging former employees or business competitors?

A. No. Young Living would never participate in such inappropriate, unprofessional, and unnecessary activities. Young Living has no need to disparage other companies to promote itself. Young Living’s company mantra is to focus on the positive things it knows are true, not on what 11 critics are inventing about the company. Young Living welcomes an open dialogue with anyone interested in learning the truth. Young Living has seen that an honest and careful examination of the facts defuses the situation the vast majority of the time.

Q. Other companies are saying negative things about Young Living and Gary Young. Are they true?

A. You should carefully consider the source of such information. Competitors have a financial incentive to disparage Young Living and Gary Young at every turn to mask their lack of expertise, unethical behavior, and shallow understanding of essential oils. When wild statements and accusations are made, you should demand proof. Ask yourself, “Why would others build their new business based on slander and on attacking others? What are the facts? What is the truth?”
D. Gary Young

Q. What is Gary Young’s background? How did he become an expert on essential oils?

The Beginning D. Gary Young is an unusual and visionary man, who through tremendous adversity and the most amazing circumstances finds himself teaching seminars, formulating in his laboratory, plowing fields with his tractor, designing and building equipment for his farm and distillery operations worldwide, and running a multimillion dollar business.

He grew up in the mountains of central Idaho with no electricity or running water, where he and his five siblings were taught by their parents how to live from the earth. Growing up in poverty, with marginal education, life was harsh and demanding. But against all odds, this young man was determined to have something better. Perhaps no one understands the concept of making a difference more than D. Gary Young. Today, as the founder and CEO of Young Living Essential Oils, it is hard to imagine the difficult path this man has walked in order to achieve today’s success.

At the age of 24, in the mountains of central British Columbia, Canada, Gary suffered a near-fatal logging accident that left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair for life, according to the doctors and all medical prognoses. Dependent on morphine and in a drugged and deepening state of depression, his mind filled with darkness and all hope vanished. After a failed third suicide attempt, he realized that he had to make a change. This is when Gary began to venture down a new life’s path in search of natural ways to heal his body.

Discovery

This path led him to the discovery of many different healing modalities that included the world of nutrition; and after 13 years, struggling with intense pain, he was able to walk without assistance. With strong determination he ran a half marathon, finishing 67th out of 970 participants.
He went back to school, studying naturopathy with emphases in both nutrition and psychology, for strength in and knowledge about emotional healing. Receiving a doctoral degree in 12 naturopathy and a master’s degree in nutrition, he was driven to search for greater knowledge and the discovery of other healing modalities used in other areas of the world.

He opened a private family practice in Chula Vista, California, and a research clinic in La Mesa, Mexico, where he was determined to understand degenerative diseases and find ways to restore health naturally. It was in this clinic that he began his study of essential oils. One of his patients gave him some translated medical research that had been conducted in Europe, which he found very exciting.
He flew to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend a medical conference on the research and potential benefits of essential oils. This began a greater path of enlightenment, as he returned to his clinic with 13 oils from France to see what he could discover.

For eight years he conducted clinical research on the effects of essential oils on the human body.

Belief

Not only did he see greater results with his patients, but he saw the unexpected, not only for his patients but also for himself. Still in constant pain from his accident, he was very excited when the pain was significantly reduced after applying the oils. His research of usage and application was unprecedented—new to the modern world. His discoveries were unparalleled in modern science; and as spectacular as they were, the world wasn’t ready for them, and he was taunted and laughed at as he persevered.
He saw the difference between essential oils sold in the marketplace and the essential oils that he was using in his clinic. To distinguish the differences between them, he began using the term “therapeutic-grade,” although the world still laughed at this “snake oil salesman,” who was determined to tell the world about essential oils.
Nothing could stop the truth that he had discovered, that he knew would help millions of people if only they could have the opportunity. His dedication to his mission intensified as he discovered more and more. He immersed himself into the history of early medicine and essential oils and traveled from the ruins of ancient Egypt to the archives of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, the British Museum Library in London, his own laboratory, and the chemistry department at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, to prove the validity of this ancient science.

As early as 1997, he was asked to present the research he was conducting on single oils and oil blends at Weber State University. The same year he presented a paper on organic farming and germination at the UNIDO World Congress on essential oils held at Anadolu University in Eskisehir, Turkey. In 1998 he was the only American invited to speak at the First International Congress on Integrated Medicine held in Grasse, France. Since that time, the demand for him to speak and present his research has continued to increase every year, as he shares his knowledge with thousands of people worldwide.

Transformation

Although Gary’s introduction to essential oils was through medical science, he was fascinated with how they were produced. Growing up on a ranch and learning to farm, he had a tremendous 13 advantage. He understood the earth and what it took to grow healthy crops, but he had no experience with aromatic plants. His desire to learn took him to France to study the plants and learn the art of distillation. Year after year he returned, spending weeks and months studying with Europe’s greatest teachers.
Gary brought lavender seeds home with him from France and planted them in a quarter acre piece of ground behind his office. He built his first distiller by welding two pressure cookers together and distilling his first lavender crop on the kitchen stove, which produced only a tiny bit of oil. As crude as it was, it was the beginning of an immense enterprise that would grow to having farms and distilleries around the world for the cultivation of aromatic plants and the extraction of essential oils.

Marcel Espieu, the former president of the Lavender Grower’s Association in France for 20 years, at first laughed at “this American” who thought he could duplicate what generations of French lavender growers had in their blood.

Marcel paid Gary the greatest compliment of his career when he spoke at the Young Living Convention in 2002 and said to the thousands of people attending, “The student has now become the teacher, and the teacher is now the student.”

Gary continues to travel throughout the world furthering his research, sharing his passion with others, and bringing therapeutic essential oils to those searching for a natural way to health and longevity as well as to financial prosperity. His dedication, passion, experience, and vast knowledge in this field have earned him the recognition as one of the foremost authorities on essential oils in the world. Not only is Gary’s personal story remarkable, but it is paralleled by his success in the business world.
His Mission D. Gary Young’s personal experiences have made him who he is today. Added to his empathetic, loving, and kind nature, he has a driving commitment to help those in need. Overcoming tremendous adversity himself, Gary knew he could help others in their quest for wellness and prosperity. His life’s mission has been to inspire people to find healing through natural means— through God’s precious oils—to learn how to take care of their bodies as God intended, to have greater understanding and compassion for one another, and to achieve mutual respect and honor, even in our differences.
Founder of Young Living Essential Oils Gary chose the vehicle of network marketing to teach people and to take the oils to the world. He and his wife Mary founded Young Living Essential Oils 20 years ago, with only three employees to begin their business. It quickly grew and today is one of the fastest growing network marketing companies in North America.

D. Gary Young’s commitment to understanding the remarkable, therapeutic power of plants has resulted in the world’s largest line of essential oils, blends, and supplements infused with essential oils. Gary has traveled the globe to discover how to best support both physical health and emotional wellness. His discoveries have helped hundreds of thousands of people experience14 the benefits of natural healing and have made Young Living unquestionably the world leader in essential oils.

The Young Living farms and distilleries enable Young Living Essential Oils to maintain its position as the world’s leading grower, distiller, and provider of 100% pure, genuine, therapeutic-grade essential oils. Young Living’s success extends to hundreds of Young Living employees worldwide and more than 250,000 Independent Distributors across the globe.

Author Among his many achievements, D. Gary Young is also an accomplished writer. He has published 9 books on essential oils and natural health and co-authored 17 published papers based on his years of scientific research and discovery.

In his quest to find the truth about the legendary frankincense, he found himself in many remote places in the world, thirsting for the ancient knowledge that had been lost to the modern world. He wanted to know everything about frankincense and myrrh—the oils that were taken to the Christ Child. What did the ancient people know that we didn’t know?
Every time he returned to Arabia, he felt like he was coming home. His experiences and discoveries were so amazing that he wrote a historical novel called The One Gift and made a documentary film, so people could come to understand life on the caravan and how these ancient resins were transported and used daily, eventually reaching the far corners of the earth. The caravan trading centers were the beginning of international commerce, influencing the development of our world through language, intercultural communication, and healing.
It has been a fascinating journey for Gary that will culminate in the most intricate and comprehensive books written about “God’s healing oils.”

Philanthropy Throughout D. Gary Young’s travels, he has seen firsthand the harsh realities of poverty, illness, and conflict affecting much of the world. Having grown up in poverty with little education, he can relate well to these impoverished communities. These experiences inspired him to start the D. Gary Young Foundation, which has given aid to numerous projects, including:

• Building a new school (the Young Living Academy) in Chongon, Ecuador
